MY STORY.

mother . tea-drinker . seeker of adventures . storyteller . awkward person

Some years ago, a friend told me, "You find beauty in the cracks in the pavement." It perfectly sums up how I see the world around me – there's beauty to be found in the nuances of the ordinary, the everyday and the in-between. These days, my son constantly reminds me to keep looking for beauty and awe in unexpected places and moments.

I’m Nina (she/her), a tea-drinking, music-loving introvert based in nipaluna/Hobart, Tasmania. I’m fluent in sarcasm, a terrible baker, I eat way too much chocolate and there’s a good chance I’ll shed a tear or two at your wedding. I believe in putting my heart + soul into creating beautifully honest stories of love and human connection.

I draw on my background in architecture to inform the way I see and use elements such as light + shadow, pattern, texture, lines, form and colour; as well as from observing people on my travels, and street photography. Architecture has allowed me to explore some incredible corners of the world, working, volunteering and photographing. In mid 2013, I returned to Hobart after a long hiatus, including two years teaching architecture in Uganda. While my heart has been stolen by Africa, my identity will forever linger with my Tasmanian roots. This beautiful island at the edge of the world is where I am most at home, feeding my creativity and adventuring with my son; and from where I draw much inspiration and document some pretty darn wonderful love stories.

I’m also rather fond of  gin, pottering in the garden*, design, collecting books + ocean treasures, learning new things, fabulous light and really trashy tv. Memes are my love language and I believe that a cup of tea can solve almost anything.

ETHOS

As an ambassador for Less Stuff More Meaning, I believe in a people-first approach to wedding photography - people, human connections and in-between moments first; the material details help tell the story, but they are not the most important part. I believe in collecting experiences rather than things, and I get excited about making images filled with meaning. In twenty years when the details are outdated, the flowers have wilted and all the food has been eaten, the most important thing you'll want to remember from your wedding day is the love, emotion and human connection. You'll want to look back on the day and feel the words spoken, the deep belly laughs, the safe embraces, the gentle kisses, the stolen glances, and hilarious and heart-warming speeches.

Because the real stuff is the really good stuff.

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.

What you have caught on film is captured forever.

It remembers the little things, long after you have forgotten everything."

– AARON SISKIND

I love to connect with couples who approach their wedding day in a relaxed and thoughtful way that reflects their life, their style and their love. Every wedding story is different; you're unique and your relationship is as well. I want to tell your story in a way that feels true to you.

I work intuitively, and my approach is simple, unobtrusive and photojournalistic - this allows me to visually narrate the realness of your day, and create beautifully honest stories of love and human connection. I aim to capture the real and beautiful interactions without excessive direction or awkward posing; because I believe that wedding photography should be a true reflection of who you are as a couple, and your relationship with those around you. It should also unfold like a well-told story, rich with images that allow you to relive the magic of your wedding day, over and over.

If my relaxed, documentary approach resonates with you, let's grab a cuppa (or coffee or gin or wine), you can tell me all about your amazing plans and we can create a visual story which is perfectly you.
